Experience and Training
I have broad-based experience as a therapist working with adults, children and families. Over time, I found most success and pride in my work with individuals recovering from childhood abuse, domestic violence, and other relational trauma. Of course, those experiences manifest in different ways including PTSD, depression, anxiety, anger, shame, and impact relationships significantly. My broad experience helps me understand how all the pieces fit together in context.
Journey to Independent Practice
Initially, I gained extensive experience at outpatient mental health clinics serving the disadvantaged children and families in the Sacramento area. Now, after starting in private practice in 2014, I am launching Odyssey Psychotherapy as an independent, licensed therapist, I’m ready to embark on my own journey and would be honored if you choose to join me.
Training in Trauma Therapy
I have completed advanced training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This is a strong foundation yet is typically insufficient by itself when addressing relational trauma specifically. Therefore, I incorporate an attachment-oriented approach ideal for treating trauma in relationships. If a bad relationship got you into this mess, then a solid relationship built on safety, trust and respect is critical to healing.
In treating relational trauma, my work with children has prepared me well to work with all ages. Children often lack the language or haven’t yet made the mental connections needed to better understand themselves and process trauma. Through experience, I have developed heightened awareness of expressions, gestures, tones, and words that adults I work with may not even realize they use. This acuity helps me reflect back to clients their experience so they feel more deeply heard and understood, and open the doors to change.
License and Education
My professional license is in Marriage and Family Therapy in the state of California (MFT License #98109). I have a Masters of Counseling (MFT Specialization) degree from California State University, Sacramento. As a life-long learner, the education never truly ends, however, and I regularly attend advanced training to improve my knowledge and skills.
